We stayed in Cheshire for a few days between Christmas and New Year and decided to head west to The Wirral, which is a part of the country neither of us had been to before. We headed out towards West Kirby, as recommended by a friend, which is a pretty little town and then drove round the headland to Birkenhead. The Waterstones here is in a red-brick building and used to be a mortuary! After leaving Birkenhead we headed under the river Mersey via the Queensway Tunnel.

Queensway Tunnel Ventilation Shaft
Taken from an earlier visit to Liverpool from the River Mersey, the ventilation shaft for the Queensway Tunnel is a gorgeous (well, I think it’s gorgeous!) Art Deco building. One of four (two on the Liverpool Side and two on the Wirral side), this one is called the Woodside ventilation shaft.
